Nations Population Fund / Iraq office organizes a training course to strengthen
Iraqi national capacity in demographic analysis in Amman 15-24/12/2009
A specialized training
course in demographic analysis begins tomorrow in Amman within the framework of
UNFPA’s project for strengthening Iraq’s national capacity in censuses and large
scale surveys. Fifteen participants from the Central Organization for Statistics
and Information Technology (COSIT), representatives from some ministries as well
as researchers from Iraqi universities will attend the course.
This
course is the first part of a two integrated training courses, each is composed
of 10 training days. The course will be conducted by a group of UNFPA advisors,
who represent the most well known demographers in the Arab region from Sudan,
Jordan, Lebanon and Palestine.
The overall objective of the
course is to strengthen the national capacities in demographic analysis and
population issues, which is part of the activities by the UNFPA to strengthen
the capacity of Iraq's national policy on population and demographic analysis.
In particular, the course aims to strengthen
national capacity to understand the Iraqi measures of demographic analysis, and
linking demographic analysis with causes through casual analysis and trends
through the trend analysis techniques.
By the end
of the second part of this course which is planned late January 2010, it is
expected to provide Iraqi nationals with important experience in demographic
measures, estimation from micro data, and analyze the results of measurements
using causal and trend analysis techniques and linking them with the demand of
labor market, housing, education, and other sector’s services.
