Baghdad and Najaf record the highest proportion of telephone density in Iraq
(84%) were allocated for housing


 


The Central Organization for Statistics and Information Technology / Ministry of Planning and Development Cooperation issued its annual report on the realities of communications in Iraq in coordination with the Public Company of Post and Communications in The Ministry of Communications.


The press release issued by the publication and public relations directorate in COSIT mentioned that the total number of telephones reached (1306.1) thousands through the year of 2007 compare with (1278.2) thousands in 2006 has been recorded an increase in rate of (2.2%).The release
refer to the ratio of telephones for housing has been reached (84%), followed by shops and offices (12%) while the rate of telephones that have been specialized for state offices and institutions reached only(4%) from the total occupied numbers.

 

The statement added that the number of centrals in Iraq has witnessed rise in rate of (1.4%) during 2007 compared to 2006, when they were (288) centrals rose to (292) centrals, then demonstrated that Najaf governorate registered the highest rate of telephone density in Iraq amounted (7.6%), followed by Baghdad (7.3%), While the total number of offices of telephone service reached(408) offices, included (127) offices in Baghdad, and (281) offices are distributed over remaining governorates.

 

The release also pointing out that the number of post offices are slight increased in rate of (1%) during 2007, while the number of these offices were (286) offices in 2006, rose to (288) offices in 2007, The number of mail boxes reaches (55227) boxes, including (7755) rented mail boxes and (47472) vacant boxes.


The release pointed out that postal boxes and offices which spread across the country received (12390) mail packages, including (4596) packages from abroad and (7794) mailed packages from inside Iraq, The report showed that the number of savers in saving funds dropped by (2.3%) than it was in 2006, which reached at that time (264) thousands savers, then back down to (258) thousands savers in 2007.
