Central Organization for Statistics and Information Technology
The Central
Organisation for Statistics and Information Technology has completed its monthly
report on inflation in Iraq as reflected by the consumer price index (CPI). The
index reflects the retail prices of consumer basket in chosen markets in Baghdad
and other governorates.
The report shows the followings:
1.
The CPI for
June 2009 as compared with the
previous month increased
at a rate of
(1.3%)
mainly due to the
increase in
prices of
(Food-stuff ; Tobacco & Alcoholic Drinks ; Clothes - cloths and shoes ;
Furniture ; Fuel &
Light ;
Transport & communications ; Miscellaneous Services & Goods and Rent) groups at
a rates of (0.3%
, 0.6% , 0.6%
, 1.7% , 0.002% ,
1.1%
, 1.0% ,
2.4%) respectively , while the prices of (Medical Services and Medicines) have
decreased
by a rates of (0.5%) .

The
inflation indicator increased for June 2009
in comparison with
June 2008 by a rate of
(0.7%) mainly due to increase in the prices of commodities & services groups
(Food-stuff ; Tobacco & Alcoholic Drinks ; Furniture ; Transport
&communications; Medical Services and Medicines; Miscellaneous Services & Goods
and Rent) by a rates of (11.4% , 10.1% , 1.4%
, 5.9% , 0.3% ,
7.4% , 8.8%) respectively, while the prices of (Clothes - cloths and shoes ;
Fuel &
Light)
have
decreased by a
rates of (3.7% , 33.4%) respectively
.

The
core inflation*amounted to (19858.9) with an increase of (1.5%) as compared with
the previous month and an increase of (8.7%) as compared with
June 2008.
*The core or underlying
inflation is defined as the rate of change of CPI calculated by excluding the
fuel derivatives (kerosene, LPG and Gasoline).
