Higher Committee of poverty lightening Strategy in Iraq
Held expanded meeting
The Higher Committee of poverty lightening strategy in Iraq and
specialist search teams expanded meeting chaired by Dr. Mehdi Al-Alak Deputy
Minister of Planning and Development Cooperation / Chairman of Central
organization for Statistics and Information Technology.
During the meeting which was attended by several members of
chamber of deputies and representatives of ministries who are members of the
Committee... Has been discussed many issues on the agenda which related by
mechanisms of Committee's work, which will put an overall strategy for coming
years including solutions for poverty problems in Iraq.
At the outset of meeting, Dr. Mehdi Al-Alak, Chairman of the
Committee, reviewed the future prospects of poverty lightening strategy in the
country by relying on indicators provided by COSIT through surveys and
statistics, including the economic and social survey of Iraqi household, which
is one of the most important surveys performed in Iraq, as it will provide a
broader modern database about the reality of household, hopefully its results
will soon release...
Al-Alak point out to the great attention paid by the government
for treating and lightening poverty in Iraq, which would require building a
database that would help makers of development plans and economic decision to
put fundamental solutions for treating and lightening poverty in Iraq.
The meeting
also witnessed a presentation by the heads of specialized teams of the Higher
Committee about works of these teams and search requirements of their success.
In addition to designation of the coordinators of ministries to work on
preparing the final draft report
of Committee's
work which will be submitted for initial discussion in next mid-September.
It is noteworthy that COSIT had been prepared in number of
studies including a study on poverty and levels of deprivation in Iraq that
showed (28%) of households and (30%) of individuals are living in extreme
deprivation, and another study on the living conditions of Iraqi households
showed that (95%) of Iraqis prefer the maintaining of the ration card.
